Diaries of a Young Woman

Landscape of three diaries

I have begun the task of transcribing the diaries of my mother. My sister, Kathryn, found them in Mom’s dresser drawer. They are at the same time mundane and fascinating. I am going to work on them and my goal is to turn them into a Young Adult historical novel. They span 1934-1942, my mom ranged in age from 13 to 21 years old–the end point is when they are rounded up and sent to a Japanese internment camp. Sounds like a novel, doesn’t it?

How we enjoyed the times at your home when your Mom visited! She was a warm and a lovely woman. She had a way of making you feel comfortable and special, plus – goodness how she could cook ! Yum and double yum !

I like your thoughts about writing about her. She would be smiling!
