SRO for LET ME IN Launch

(launch photos follow)

Since April 4, 2018 I have been focused on “The Launch” of LET ME IN. Back then I’m not even sure the title was LET ME IN—it may have still been Knocking on Doors. At any rate, I began my blogging back then in anticipation of last Friday night when we kicked off the book.

Now as I write this, it doesn’t seem that long ago—after all, it’s only 17 months ago. But a lifetime has passed: my partner and husband died, my son got married, my daughter had another baby, my other son bought a home, sold the home, got a job, lost a job, and is preparing to go to China (or someplace) to teach. And his car broke down. I spent the winter driving the west, skiing my way out of grief. I did two remodels, one at the lake, one at the condo. It’s been a steady outflow of money.

The tide is turning, and we finally have inflow—of people, support, energy, and a trickle to stream of dollars as the book begins to sell and the business of Elaine Koyama Writes begins in earnest.

My mantra has been family, friends and fun. Last Friday this mantra manifested itself. My three kids and their partners were there. My nephew was in the back of the room as I spoke, and I could see emotions on his face. Flowers–roses–filled the rooms, compliments of my sister and her family in California. The room was overflowing with friends going back as far as my childhood, to Cargill workmates, to Interlinx co-workers, ski friends, tennis friends, my book club ladies, a hockey team mate, writer friends, neighbors and friends I had just met. I had my hired guns there who coached me encouraged me, and cajoled me.

And it was FUN! At least for me! We had food, drink, fun swag, a newly minted book and a room full of positive people just wanting to have fun, too. I had been preparing for this night for a months, and I was ready to pull the trigger.

So begins my third career. Writer, author, facilitator. I have a vision of what might be. And it all includes my family, friends far and wide/old and new, and the goal to have fun.

Join the ride!

Congratulations to you, Elaine! Wish I could have been there Friday night, but there was a Scottish band at the Cedar. I love the skiing your way out of grief and, you should come over for coffee sometime when we are both in Alexandria! ❤ Judy MacGibbon
