Lake Irene Society Column
This is the week of October 21 and I am happy to be reporting for the Lake Region News.
The Lake Irene League of Women Voters will begin reporting news in their own column next month. We have enjoyed covering the start-up of their club here on Lake Irene and hope they continue their important work of discussion and debate in a respectful and democratic manner. Look for their meeting information elsewhere in the Lake Region News.
The Douglas County Extension Service administered Home Demonstration Club for the ladies of Lake Irene will begin to be reported in our Society Column. Many of the members are also frequent participants in our Lake Irene Society Column. Each club meeting is held at member homes, all are welcomed. The club is recruiting new members. Meetings focus on homemaking, social and community action. Guest speakers attend the meetings, often sharing their expertise. The November meeting will be on “Seed Art: Making Seeds into Art.” Contact Mrs. Ole Tirstigs for more information.
Wednesday evening Mrs. Sven Tirstigs hosted dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Bob Boomer, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Swanson. She served roast duck with baby potatoes and apple pie on her family’s Rosenthal china.
Thursday Bridge club was hosted by Mrs. Isa Haaksonen. Mrs. Lars Johannson again provided her homemade dandelion wine which has become a staple for the gathering. Chex Mix served in Fostoria berry bowls and Mixed Nuts and Beer Nuts were also made available.
Miss Katrina Jarvi and Mr. Per Johannson participated in the Alexandria Homecoming activities as part of the Homecoming royalty. We are all so proud of our kids!
And that’s this week’s news from Lake Irene, reported for the Lake Region News by Hjordis Johannson, residing on the northwest corner of lake Irene (go to the public access and take a right.)
